Botanical Garden of Turin

Orto botanico di Torino

The Botanical Garden in Turin was founded in 1729 and immediately gained considerable renown. Between 1830 and 1840, the “boschetto” (wood) was created inside the Garden. During the years prior to the restoration, the expansion of buildings and lecture halls had cut down the space for greenhouses.
Having reopened to the public in 1997, the Botanical Garden features specimens of local flora, while the boschetto is a portion of the Po valley flora, useful species and exotic oddities, such as the area dedicated to the plants mentioned in the Holy Scriptures.
